I feel so blessed to live in San Diego for all good sushi restaurants!
Akai Hana is a hidden gem in Rancho Bernardo area.
Just make sure to make a reservation to reserve the seat at the sushi bar. (I recommend to ask for Nakamura san for sushi man)
At the sushi bar, first they serve you with warm towel to wash hands and than, they will serve small cabbage salad and pickled ginger.
Here are some of dishes that I had.
One night, I visited this place late at night and I was the last costumer at the bar. After my last order was made, the sushi man was cleaning up and I saw he was throwing away all leftovers. Which means they only serve fresh sushi daily and don’t use a day old leftovers. I have seen other places storing leftovers at the end of the day especially marinated ones such as spicy tuna, spicy salmon, poke sushi( I don’t go back to those places). This place has little higher price but they are worth it to go.
