I feel so blessed to live in San Diego for all good sushi restaurants!

Akai Hana is a hidden gem in Rancho Bernardo area.

Just make sure to make a reservation to reserve the seat at the sushi bar. (I recommend to ask for Nakamura san for sushi man)

At the sushi bar, first they serve you with warm towel to wash hands and than, they will serve small cabbage salad and pickled ginger.

Here are some of dishes that I had.

This was off the menu, Amber Jack sushi.

Hotate (scallop), and Uni (sea urchin).

No Pressure Roll. Off the menu but always available when asked. Highly recommend this roll, this is very refreshing, sweet, and well balanced!
spicy tuna, krab meat, shrimp, avocado, masago inside and scallop, masago, tobiko and fresh squeezed lemon juice on top.

Wagu style beef sushi.
Over priced but worth to try for meat lovers.

Soft Shell Crab roll.
This is good for no raw fish eaters. It is very flavorful and sweet.

Amaebi (sweet shrimp).
it seems like this one is always on daily special for $9 which is a good deal. This comes with deep fried head of the shrimp that is very crispy and also flavorful which I forgot to take picture.

Half Dragon roll.
Nothing special about this roll. It is California roll with shrimp tempura inside and unagi (eel) on top.

Honeymoon Special.
oyster shooter with all fancy eggs. Huge sized oyster garnished with tobiko, masago, uni, quail egg, green onion, ponzu, and lemon juice

Tracie roll.
No rice roll. It is light and refreshing. I liked the fact that it did not filled with krab meat (imitation crab meat) like other cheap no rice rolls.

Mr. brown hand roll.
filled mainly with yellowtail. It is sweet and spicy.
Off the menu but always available when asked.

One night, I visited this place late at night and I was the last costumer at the bar. After my last order was made, the sushi man was cleaning up and I saw he was throwing away all leftovers. Which means they only serve fresh sushi daily and don’t use a day old leftovers. I have seen other places storing leftovers at the end of the day especially marinated ones such as spicy tuna, spicy salmon, poke sushi( I don’t go back to those places). This place has little higher price but they are worth it to go.
